holyname

Seeing 108 tonight. Awkward dives and fist banging mania are probable. And sneezing.

Here's a video I found from last time I saw them.

Call me morbid

I was listening to Cemetary Gates this morning and my roommate made fun of me. Apparently The Smiths aren't good for going into a Friday. I disagree. Furthermore, I contend that mopey music is great for working out. So download this and go lift weights or run or something. That's what I'm doing, at least until yoga tonight where it will be weirdo new age music and not 108 like it should be.

But between now and then, there was Life

Photobucket

Finished this. Pretty good. If I had kids, I'd read it to them.

And they'd listen to this.

Joy Division - Russel Club 1979

They'd be so well-adjusted.

To here knows when.

Valentine's Day. Whatever!

My Bloody Valentine - Roseland Ballroom, NYC September 23, 2008.

Photobucket

I was at this show, and aside from the drunk hippy who was "feeling it" with weird rave hands and yelling shit a lot, it was awesome.

My Bloody Valentine - Los Angeles February 4, 1992.

Photobucket

I wasn't at this show, unfortunately. In 1992 I was far more interested in recess and Legos than music.

My Bloody Valentine - Loveless (remastered)

Photobucket

And here's Loveless, remastered. Everyone name checks this to sound cool and I know it's a typical "over it" record to sweat, but fuck it.

Never lose that feeling, never learn.

Swervedriver rips. I saw them over the summer in DC and it was awesome. More shoegaze and hardcore bands I like should do reunions, and based on the past few years, probably will.

Anyway, I found this Swervedriver set this morning on my computer that I'd never listened to. It's good. Get it.

The world is my fuse

On one of my recent angsty Facebook status updates, a friend told me I have "interesting things to say and a varied interest base" so should do a blog. The first remains to be seen, but I do have a lot of interests, many of which can be uploaded by me and downloaded by you. I'll start with that.

Deeper Than Inside. I bit this title from a Rites of Spring song. This band represents the best of what I love about punk. Desperate, urgent, hopeful, defiant, confused, and convicted. All at once. I've probably put "In Silence/Words Away" on every mixtape I've ever almost made for a girl who bummed me out, only to listen to "Remainder" and snap out of it.

They hit self-conscious introspective and manic exuberant in a way that resonates as much for me now in my mid20s as it did my senior year of high school when I first heard it.

You can buy their studio output here: http://www.dischord.com/
Link to a decent recording of one of their few live sets below.
